THE BAREKET OBSERVATORY
In our current facility in Modi'in Maccabim-Re'ut Israel, we developed the Israeli Internet Telescope – a remote telescope controlled via the Internet. We’ve offered it free of charge to educational facilities for the past 7 years and it has served millions. Students from local high schools to world-class research facilities like NASA JPL and Berkeley University have used our technology to uncover the secrets of the universe.
We consider ourselves an educational observatory - our mission is to act as a resource, but our passion is to give anyone who has an interest in the night sky access and opportunities to learn more. To that end, we work with NASA to provide live web casts (like this one from deep space). We also offer as many star-gazing events, eclipse viewings, and live broadcasts from our telescope that are available to anyone over the internet. We even offer many astronomy courses, both in addition to current high school curriculum in Israel (including a variety of topics like physics, biology, ecology and chemistry) and independent study.
